Christmas is coming, and although it wasn’t invented in Naples - unlike many other wonders - if you’re lucky enough to spend it here, it’s impossible not to be swept away by the unique atmosphere that fills the city. What is truly Neapolitan is the whole set of traditions and rituals that make this time of year so warm and special: from culinary delights such as struffoli, roccocò, eels, and clams, to the Nativity scene, Neapolitan playing cards, tombola, and the Smorfia. The most iconic symbols of a Neapolitan Christmas are represented here by Irene Ghillani in her reinterpretation of the now-iconic Cover No. 49.
